An artist to me is someone who creates for themselves, and are able to create their perspective on the world and bring it to life. An artist is able to give meaning to nothing and bring light to things that cross people’s minds. An artist knows how to steal an original idea and turn it into their own, giving it a different meaning, tone, or perspective. When art starts to talk about social issues, I think it comes dangerously close to propaganda. Art is about emotion and freedom, but if there is a social issue that makes an artist feel a certain way and they’re able to properly illustrate that, then it is genuine art.

What it means to be an artist

About my work

How I got started

My portfolio displays how I think, and gives a glimpse as to what goes on in my mind. There’s random characters that float by, a lot of color happening, simplicity with vibrancy, and a kind of randomness to my work. A lot of the time when I draw something it’s based off of a random thought, or whatever comes to mind first. Whenever I need to fill space I ask someone to give me a random word so I have a base to get a good idea of what I want to fill the empty space with. For other pieces, I feel like simplicity can convey what’s going very well, and I tend to gravitate towards simplicity more.

I first started getting into digital art about 2 years ago, when I saw all the possibilities of doing digital art. I tried to do photo realistic or somewhat realistic drawing at first but it became a struggle to do any of that, and I began taking inspiration from cartoons. A lot of Cartoon Network animations are really weird sometimes, or very chaotic, and that’s the kind of stuff that I really enjoy seeing. They make something outrageous seem ordinary or part of the standard that goes on, and that’s usually how I like to think when I create my own characters.
